Here are some INCREDIBLE lightning shots from Mike O'Neill of Darwin, Australia...You can find more of his work at his website, StormscapesDarwin.com.  The Tropics of Northern Australia probably have some of the best lightning displays in the world during the rainy season(s), as the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone sags south to through the area.  Australia also averages around two category 5 tropical cyclones per year!  Enjoy the pictures!

First- reed- thanks for sharing those lightning pictures- awesome- and matt-as i sit her looking at models and chowing on some friend eggplant-first thing i look for is how much sb cape would be available attm- looking at that- i cannot find a 500 j/kg reading untill i reach southern arkansas- and northeastern texas/louisiana- next thing i look for is 0-1 km helicty around 150 and then 0-3 km helicty around 250+ unfortunatly it only shows it till sunday not where i want it to be- next thing i look for is wind energy at 250 mb and 850 mb- at 250 mb- winds are around 60-80 knots as for north in western ky- at 850 mb- only around 25 knots- next thing i look for is temperatures- there going to be around the upper 60s in ky- up to the low 70s in ark./louisiana- next thing i look for is dewpoints- a dewpoint of 55 or more is suffiencent for severe weather this time of year-i just don't see that happening

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Matt | November 17, 2007 @ 5:29 PM #

I have alot of plans for next summer!! I think I'm going to make a little show with my friend. There's StormChasers, That's 1 hour long. I think I'll make one next summer on Bike Chasers, 30 minutes long.

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Donny Cook | November 17, 2007 @ 6:04 PM #

your welcome matt- anything you want to know- you can ask me, reed, or anyone else i know i like helping people- but earlier- those were just a few of the things i look for- you also have to look for backing winds, see if t-storms are going to be surface based or elevated, theres other things to consideral also- such as how much cloudiness is going to hold temperatures down- but what is very interesting to me- during the tri-state tornado- that the tornado formed behind the font- and it was moving to fast it actually outran ran the front and gained intensity

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Heidi | November 17, 2007 @ 6:05 PM #

Caleb, you're right. Maybe we can call it a tie?? ;)

Clever Heidi, clever... but I think it's a tie, just to be fair.

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Cors | November 17, 2007 @ 8:08 PM #

Cors. Check out Warren Faidley's stuff. Back about 20 years ago, he got a shot of a direct CG to a storage tank facility from about 50 yards away. Here's a link to see a small version of the pic. The shot I'm talking about can be found on the right-hand side - it's the first lightning pic on that side, and has the words "natural disasters" under the photo.

Thank's Mike!! And no problem for the comment in the guest book! If ya wanna check out some stuff. Go to www.freewebs.com/cndnweather/ I'm a Bike Chaser from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Just go to "The Chaser's" section and you'll be able to read up about me.

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Cors | November 17, 2007 @ 10:37 PM #

trust me the vids u see are tiny parts of the whole role. its obvious ofcourse for some but it looks like they just put on the cam and got it. thats not how it work. most prolly go hours of video maybe even of multible cams just to get the 10sec shot.

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Kenny | November 17, 2007 @ 10:47 PM #

Cors, Imagine if human's could predict where/when the lightning would strike. Anyone could save live's of people then and get the perfect shot!

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Cors | November 17, 2007 @ 10:53 PM #

I think they can detect when lighning strikes, they use it to predict places where forrest fires might start. but going along on this road there are conspiracy theories about black millitairy prgrams that can actually guide hurricanes.

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By justin | November 18, 2007 @ 12:59 AM #

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Cors | November 18, 2007 @ 1:03 AM #

If I was a gambling man, which I am. I bet the GB tornado had higher windspeeds then the oklahoma may3 f5. but probably the strongest tornadoes form in bangladesh/india.

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By justin | November 18, 2007 @ 1:12 AM #

true but I was thinking about the himalayas and the flat land right behind it. I dont know much about the science of tornadoes but I think that would be the perfect setting geographically.

I haven't really thought about it... but I guess I can credit the Greensburg event in someways for me finding this site!! I remember just after it happened finding out about Reed and Joels work!!

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By cors | November 18, 2007 @ 1:42 AM #

I mean, think about wot ur doing!!! look at for instance metallica they cant buy their newest learjet and have to do it with an older version without plasma tv's or Jlo she has to cancel her ass beautician just because working class people download music for free. It's terrorism thats wot it is!!! shame on freeloaders shame on you!!!

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Brady MN | November 18, 2007 @ 1:47 AM #

Ya have to agree, if anyone out there deserves some $$ for their work, It's Reed and the crew!! It's not like they sit on their asses and collect!! That's why I hesitate to try to download any of these guys stuff!! I'll buy em straight up!! but yeah... fdk the entertainment industry unless they chase storms!! hehe

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Kim | November 18, 2007 @ 1:54 AM #

Hey Brady, You should get Tornado Glory, it's a little dated now, but it's really good! I have seen it a gazillion times!

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By Cors | November 18, 2007 @ 1:55 AM #

after listening to WWL radio for about 2weeks, I felt obligated to donate $100 to N.O. (red cross) but its a very nice gesture of you to do that but just giving respect and telling other people about the site helps him just as much. let the big news stations pay the $$$ they can affort it, I pitty anderson cooper, I used to see him as a hero (after katrina) but I read a interview with him and reed b4 cooper was famous and he said he didnt get it; stormchasing. now I remember cooper hangening of a pier in florida in the middle of hurricane wilma,,,he doesnt get it????

Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia -- StormscapesDarwin.com Comment Posted By justin | November 18, 2007 @ 1:56 AM #

i still have to buy and see tornado glory haven't seen it yet and i would still buy reed's videos cuz i think they would be good

uhh I didnt think this through completely, considering reeds continuing efforts to keep this site up to date/current he deserves a whole lot of respect and actually donations cause its costing him money to keep this site online.

Oh I try to plug this site everywhere I go!! I even recruited a local chaser who peeks in from time to time!!He'll help next summer!!
