Check out this video of a water spout just off the coast of Oran, Algeria. Toufik Tidjane shot this video on October 30, 2007. It's difficult to tell if it's a supercell tornado or a non-supercell water spout. Any thoughts?

That is an odd one. The base looks like it could be supercellular, but the tube looks very waterspout-ish. I wonder what the convective activity looked like in the western Mediterranean on Oct. 30 - that would help, but not necessarily confirm, I guess. (Oh, and it's Oran, not Oman! ;)
to me it looks to be regular supercellular
looks to be a smaller supercell with they way the lowering above the waterspout looks.
it was hard to see the storm structure because of the contrast. i couldnt see evidence of a RFD cut (maybe there is), but it looks like there was a definate lowering. i agree with heidi...looking at the models that day could help...but its totally difficult to tell.

But Im going to go with Supercellular, because of the lowering, and also, Notice the clear skies to the left of the tornado, Also it did appear to have a lowering with it, but I could be wrong.

I have an image which looks like this, itof a family of waterspouts, it was posted a few months back by someone but i cant remember.....to me the structure of this storm and the lowering of the tornado/waterspout look the same ill post the link to the image when i upload it...... just a sec lol
Hey guys! Hows it going? Sorry about last night, i was hyper and apparently ignorant. The models don't look nearly as impressive with the so called "snow storm" like they were yesterday. They have the storm moving out quicker.

Well I'm not too AAAAA jfdvkd because ABC ran the Bangladesh situation as the #2 story, behind, who else? BARRY BONDS. They are probably having a lot of trouble getting any info out of the country right now. The footage they showed, though, looked bad. They also said that it was a 15-foot stormsurge, but I thought it was worse than that???

I was going to say the same thing, Tim, about the story being soon to disappear from the news "radar." Kind of the same way as when there's some huge earthquake in like Turkey or Iran or something, and for the first day the media is all over it, and then it's never talked about after the second day. What no one ever knows, unless they read Current History magazine or are involved with a world outreach orginization or something similar, is that frequently there are tens of thousands of people dying from these events, from starvation, exposure, etc. Meanwhile the US and world media is focused on BARRY BONDS, Paris Hilton, Britney, Beckham, etc. etc. And all the other non-stop rhetoric.
This is why I don't make an effort to get satellite TV. One and a half channels is enough.

Hey everyone long time. I thought that video was cool. I am not too sure about the differences of the two, but to me it looks like a tornado over water, but when it hit the land it dissapated. So not sure.
To me it looks too similar to a "traditional" supercell funnel over land. It also appears much larger and more robust than the waterspouts I've seen. I say it's a "regular" tornado that happens to be over water.
Cool footage, and cool background track. Anyone know what band that is? Just curious.
