The second shortwave produced a few small thunderstorms with sleet over parts of central Oklahoma this morning, but accumulations of ice were minor. Most of the widespread heavy precipitation developed just to the east of Norman/Oklahoma City, with parts of southeast Oklahoma receiving heavy freezing rain for most of the afternoon Saturday. Below is a radar image just before the brief, heavy sleet began here in Norman.

This storm is a big disappoint from the standpoint that many Norman residents need a reality check as to what an ice storm really means and can do!
I talked with one guy at the Red Robin at I35 and Lindsey who yesterday made the statement, "we'll be open tomorrow. This is nothing. I'm from Denver, so..." I responded... "uhhh, you don't get ice storms in denver! You get a lot of snow and occasionally sleet, but hardly ever do you get FREEZING RAIN, thus you have no idea what it can do!" ... he replies "ahhh, its all the same" ... I'm thinking.... "wow! is this guy for real?! Sadly I think he represents the majority of ignorant people from Denver and elsewhere who equate snow and freezing rain as one in the same." In reality freezing rain has much more potential to produce damage and destruction than any Denver snowstorm can imagine! But just try telling that to someone from DENVER lol. I've lived in Denver, therefore I am god and I can deal with any and all winter weather, big or small... and my penis is HUGE! lol. What a bunch of ignorant TARDS!
Norman needs a MAJOR ICE STORM to wake up all the ignorant TARDS that reside here!
I totally agree.
We've had several close calls as well...it's either been a sleet storm..which is nothing...or 33 and rain with the tops of trees getting a little ice.
parts of central NE have been without power for a few weeks since their 3 inch ice storm.
If we can get a little warm advection ahead of this vort, we still could see some liquid.
any chance we can buy a bunch of battery operated space heaters, mount them to some balloonlike contraption and suspend them around 950MB. Might need about 3 or 4 thousand. Might cost a few bucks, I"m willing to invest!!!!!!!
8:11am on sunday morning and radar has large area of light to moderate freezing rain with embedded thunderstorms expanding rapidly northeast towards central OK. I was going to bed about 45 minutes ago but now I'll stay up til this first wave of thunderstorms arrive. We may get ice accumulations after all!
Too bad we aren't 50 miles east. I'll be heading out to the I-69 corridor tomorrow to shoot some pictures..
Supposedly 2-3 inch ice accumulations are common out there...especially after this third wave.
Yeah I keep on hearing that McCalister and Muskogee is getting hammered. All Sleet all the time here in Weatherford.
