The first wave of precipitation from this major weekend ice storm in Oklahoma arrived early this morning, and has mainly been a mixture of freezing rain and sleet...but predominantly the latter. So far, we have received about 1/8 inch of ice and an inch of sleet, with heavy sleet falling as of 4:00 pm CST. Shown below is a brief video clip of the conditions just prior to the heavy sleet band, and our initial preparations for riding out the storm:

Reed - who is that running down the street? What are you burning in the fireplace? Hunker down.
about inch of sleet here on the north side. only a very light glaze of frz rain from early morning. Looks to me mostly a sleet event unless we get a deeper warm layer nosing in aloft with next couple waves of precip. Though with cold air firmly entrenched, I'm thinkin mostly sleet and very little ice. Too bad too cause I really wanted to see some HEAVY ice accumulations. Time will tell.
Keep the video updates coming!!! Good stuff!
Let us just pray that everyone is as prepared as the tornadovideos.net team.
I was waiting for Rick to fall on his ass. Dammit.
