Significant ice accumulations are likely over central and northern OK from Friday night through Sunday. A shallow Arctic air mass will drift southward across OK on Friday, and a strong vorticity maximum will produce heavy precipitation along and north of the front beginning Friday night. Surface temperatures across central/northern OK will drop below freezing Friday night just before the heavy precipitation arrives, and with very warm temperatures just above the surface, the stage will be set for a major freezing rain event this weekend in OK. The 00z Thursday WRF forecast temperature at 12z Saturday and 12z Sunday are shown below:

The WRF model forecast precip (6 hr accumulated) for the same times are shown below. The first wave of freezing precipitation over central and northern OK will fall Friday night, with 0.25-0.5" ice accumulations. The second wave of precipitation will fall Saturday night into Sunday, with another 0.5+" of additional ice accumulation. However, this assumes the WRF verifies.
