The ingredients appear to be coming together tomorrow (Saturday, April 15) for a significant severe weather outbreak over eastern NE, northeast KS, southwest IA, and northwest MO, including the threat for large, violent tornadoes. TV.net stormchasers Reed Timmer, Joel Taylor, and Dean Schoeneck will be targeting southeast to east-central NE based on the 12Z and 18Z NAM and GFS runs today, accompanied by their friends from the UK, Sarah Norris and Ben. The diehard UK stormchaser Martin Lawrence will once again accompany us, despite our 9 stormchasing busts in a row. Surprisingly, his faith in us catching him a tornado remains intact!
As seen in the image below from the 00z NAM, extreme SE NE and NE KS has a maximum in CAPE, 0-1 km helicity, and dewpoint, and also is located in the left exit of the upper-level jet streak. The hodograph from Omaha (storm motion indicated by red dot) is perfect for large, violent tornadoes with a long low-level shear vector with the streamwise vorticity maximized. Thus, the TV.net team is selecting Beatrice, NE as an initial target.
