severe_weatherIn the wake of the record-setting snowstorm Saturday, another powerful storm system is taking shape in the Pacific Northwest.  This system will set it sights on the Central U.S., impacting the Plains states Wednesday and bringing a chance for snow in the Central Plains with severe weather possible in Texas and Louisiana.  Then, on Thursday, the activity will shift east with heavy snowfall possible in Iowa/South Dakota/Minnesota and a chance of severe weather in Louisiana/Mississippi.  Though it's still too early to tell what type of severe weather might occur, the extreme wind shear and weak instability brought in the by the system means there could be a chance of supercells and even tornadoes.

Meanwhile, snowfall amounts in the Central and Northern Plains are likely to range from 8-20 inches, which combined with strong winds could produce near-blizzard conditions.  However, depending on the eventual track of the storm system, this region of heavy snowfall could shift further south and impact parts of the Southern Plains and Mid-Mississippi Valley.  Stay tuned to TornadoVideos.net for more updates on the progress of this powerful storm system!

Bring me some major snowfall here Reed. I would love to see a nice 20" of snow here in midwest ohio. I don't care about wind or anything else i'm ready for a severe winter for once.

Hi. I live in WI and am tracking that big winter storm that is supposed to hit almost exactly on Christmas Eve. We're not supposed to get as much as the East Coast, but it's not going to be good. It's going to be harder with the freezing rain and sleet mixed in with the snow. I guess I'll wait and see. :-*

I live approx. 1 hour west of Minneapolis so.. flat enough where it could get very interesting if the winds pick up after the potential large snowfall amounts. We shall see.

The GFS and the NAM both say that there could be severe weather in the south but the NAM wants more supercells and the GFS wants more of a squall line. But both say that there is good turning. Some of the NAM STP's say that there could be some large dangerous tornadoes but I think there could be an isolated strong one or to

lol, Trevor, same here. Living in Northwestern Minnesota, I will expect to see the same thing. :D We're slated to get anywhere from 6-10 inches and winds of 15-30 between Thursday and Friday. I am skeptical though. We will get snow either way but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

I live in SE South Dakota. They are forecasting 12 - 18 inches of snow with winds of 15-30 mph starting Wed. thru Fri. Don't know if any of you have ever seen snow come down sideways before, but it's a common occurence here. lol! I'm dreaming of a white(out) Christmas :-)
