Tornado watches are currently in effect from the southern Delmarva Peninsula all the way to central Florida as a robust storm system sweeps across the eastern Atlantic coast states. A PDS tornado watch is also in effect for eastern North Carolina and northeast South Carolina. PDS stands for Particularly Dangerous Situation, and the weather service issues PDS watch boxes to increase awareness when there is as expecially heightened threat severe weather. As the atmosphere continues to destabilize overnight in the eastern Carolinas in the presence of strong wind shear, strong tornadoes are possible, so persons in this area should definitely take all necessary precautions, freshen the batteries in your NOAA weather radios, etc., as nighttime tornadoes are especially dangerous.
