NT, The car I'm driving is a 1983 Pontiac Bonneville with 305 V8. I purchased it from a little old lady in Florida for $500. It had 125,000 on the odometer when I got it back February but she's up to 145 now. I've got about $2300 total invested including all the gear, which is a far cry from what I bet KG4LEO has in the "Blaze". LOLOL.

YO NITT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT YOU!
Kyle must be asleep...
Jim, Bonnie isn't all that different from Blaze but you have a hell of a lot better ride! (Road Sofa)
I stand on my previous conviction:
If you plan to have a D710 eventuallyit's cheaper in the long run to go ahead and buy it! That way you won't waste your money on a radio that you are going to retire soon anyway and face it, if you sell it you will NEVER get out of it what you've got in it!
Do it right the first time!

I woke up from a late evening nap. What did I miss?

Chime in here Nittany how long did it take for us to install your 710? 3 - 4 hours maybe? Most of that was fabricating the antenna bracket and GPS cable.
My install took 2 days but I did a LOT of custom manufacturing and replacing and installing unrelated gear.
The bottom line, I too had always wanted a TM-D710 but I thought I couldn't afford one. After all the different incantations of mobile APRS that didn't work quite right or had various kinks I finally bit the bullet and bought the D710 & AvMap G5. I could have had what I wanted the right way from the beginning but instead I now have a box full of older radios, GPS's, TNC's, cables, adapters, plugs, antennas and connectors worth well over a grand!
If you're going to get a D710 eventually ANYWAY, save the time and money by getting the right stuff the first time.
Heck, bring it to me and I'll put it in for ya, Nitt did!
Keith knows his electronics stuff well. I highly recommend that, if possible, you allow him to install your radio.
I couldn't afford any new equipment this year, so I will be chasing with the same equipment as before, but it served me well in '09.

Ok I have reacquired my old Nuvi 350 from my wife so I can use APRS on it. It the cable needed for the 710 the Fleet Management one? If so I just need to get what it is so I can make it or is it just better to9 get it? or is there a special cable. Why do I have to be working today instead of chasing gonna be a great chase day!!!

Good choice the Nuvi 350 is the only fleet unit from garmin that works correctly, the rest will not update new positions as waypoints so they leave "breadcrumb" trails of all moving APRS stations. Anyway, you will need a Kenwood translator cable from Argent Data.

Good luck, hollar if you need anything and as always SEND PICS!!

A according to Reed and his team if you look closely at the last few seasons, that flips flops are the preferred foot gear chosen by him and his team. Flip flops provide no safety for running from a tornado that is nipping at your heels!
I was shocked to see this, because chasing tornadoes, and running from them while wearing flip flops is not a smart choice, maybe doing the chasing and running is not a great idea in the first place either!
But, it sure looks like fun

Some chase for fun,
Some chase for adrenalin.
Others are out to warn the public,
And then there is the science!
The ones that are out there getting chased are solely for our amusement.

Just a little side note here that I do not think anyone has brought up yet....
IF you are a certified Spotter/Chaser there is one piece of equipment that you should really consider. An amber rotating light on top of your vehicle. This greatly helps you be visible to traffic if you are parked on the side of the road checking the weather conditions. It also lets people know that you are suppose to be there and they do not need to stop and ask if you need help, as this can lead to a dangerous situation. More than once I have been out spotting and parked on the side of the road and someone will pull up behind me (during a storm) and ask if I need assistance...
PLEASE NOTE: CONTACT LOCAL LAW INFORCEMENT ABOUT LAWS/REGULATIONS BEFORE MOUNTING A LIGHT.
