On tonight's episode of Storm Chasers, you'll be introduced to the TVN Superhauler! This remote-controlled airplane has a 12-foot wingspan and is capable of transporting 8-10 parachute probes. The idea is for the plane to fly into the inflow region of the supercell, then release the probes at altitude so they're pulled into the circulation. The probes will then record data from INSIDE the tornado! You definitely do not want to miss episode 6, tonight at 10:00 PM Eastern on Discovery!

Good show. People seemed to have thier 'act' together more this episode. Definately BETTER video footage.

Dsc Chnl called it the 'science plane'. Tvn calls it the 'superhauler'.
I call it the 'RCIV'.. remote controlled intercept vehicle. And if it's a rocket 'RPIV'... rocket propelled intercept vehicle

Looks like it will be another great episode. How will Sean Casey end up missing this tornado? And how many times will Reed drop the F bomb? Can't wait to see!! :D I hope your airplane is able to get in there.

WOW!! THAT WAS DOMINATION!!I actually got goosebumps watching that episode! on the edge of my seat the whole time. I remember that day on here when you deployed the plane, I was excited then and more excited now that I saw it. Great job everyone!!

awesome episode tonight! Did I hear correctly that next week is the finale?

Double finale I believe they said, I guess it will be two hours. Obviously we know Reed and crew survive next week. :P But hopefully they weren't hurt. Its amazing to see how much they are accomplishing now!!

As far as Sean is concerned...
I suppose it is understandable that someone(s) who has known five years of nothing but failure and abject humiliation would become bitter and jealous. That said, I am so tired of hearing Sean's constant whining. His feeble attempts to compensate for his complete and utter lack of ability by bad-mouthing Reed are sad and pathetic. Aside from being impractical and unserviceable, the TIV doesn't even look cool. Anybody could get in an armored can and bumble aimlessly around the plains. At least someone else would be likeable while doing it. Reed, I know it would be asking a lot but maybe you could let little brother tag along one day. Then he could "get his shot" and go on about his life. If I have to watch him blindly fumble around for another whole season I'll lose my mind.
Maybe his next movie should be about Mt. Rushmore. Id think, maybe, he could find that. JC.

Yeah, it kinda looked like that in the preview for next week's show. If it means he goes away, I hope he does. I am disgusted by his comments, especially saying, even if it was in jest, that he hoped Reed would or did get killed during an intercept. Why would you wish that on someone?

Wow, such anger at Sean Casey! I think he's allowed to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder at this point.

Sean getting dedicated meteorological staff for this season was a very smart move on his part. Only getting divided attention from Josh Wurman's team wasn't doing either group any favors, and that frustration was evident in Season 2 and the beginning of Season 3.

If Sean is out for next season, it'll be a loss. Storm Chasers will be missing something if it doesn't have the obligatory jackass around. ;-)

Reed and the TornadoVideos.net team is on fire! It was a long 6 months waiting to see all the awesomeness on film from following the chase season online. Next week's episode should be epic!

I can't wait for the upcoming Argentinian chase season either. That'll be coming out about the time the 2010 chase season is on fire, and it'll be a tasty treat.

I wonder how practical radar mounted to that plane would be for getting data sets.

I also wonder how the hell the pilot actually can see to control the plane. I know the plane has cameras, but it doesn't look like that control setup has a camera view. Driving around in a vehicle relying on only your view from miles away to control the plane - that's some tricky flying there!

I been watching storm chasers since it came on but I didn't join the TVN site until about a year ago or so. It's cool to see people chasing after these huge storms that could easily destroy you. I think I like the show because I am afraid of Lightning and storms but at the same time, I am fascinated by them. Last nights show was great but like some said, it is kind of lame of Sean Casey to say those things out of pure jealousy.

He is purely jealous of Reed cause he feels he is copying his idea (which in a sense he kind of is but Reed is better at getting to tornadoes than Shawn). Twistex is kind of cool to see since they are new this season. They have had some crazy chases too like that one that Reed missed last night. Next week looks to have the chase that blew Reed's Window in his face.

From the sounds of it, Sean Casey may have actually got his "Dream Shot." Josh Wurman is right about how Sean doesn't take Storm Chasing seriously and is reckless.

ok enough of chittick and his back up back up stuff,it was a awesome hair raising thing when reed did it when he was scared,but now with chittick doing it,its not cool.one other thing is it me or when you shut your eyes and hear wurman and chittick talk,do they have the same voice lol?

The plane is really cool, I fly radio controlled planes as well and it is a blast. It must have a large fuel cell for them to be able to fly it as long as they did.
Double finale? Does this mean season and series? No more Storm Chasers? I hope not.

Yes, I agree with almost everyone. The show has been great and looking forward to seeing your upcoming videos of the showdown in Argentina and next Spring as I hope the weather system pans out to produce a bit more action. Joel Come Back! I hope Sean comes back for another season, it wouldn't be the same without his comments.

Thanks for post #23, I was thinking this was the last season with all the changes and honestly I thought the new theme song for the show was also a hint of the future. Going out in a blaze of glory, would be fitting if Reed and team got great data and Casey got his impact shot. Couldn't really best that.

The concept of the RC airplane to deploy instrument packages is really slick. However, it has limitations on altitude and is very prone to damge by the environment. Based on the broadcast, TVN sucessfully deployed a instrument package "probe" at around 2,000 feet. This is a remarkable achievement. There are other systems available that reach higher altitudes deploying very similar instrument packages. Check out http:///www.glendaproject.org for more details.
