Returning from storm chasing on May 14, 2009, David Drummond came across a tank battery fire that was ignited by lightning associated with a thunderstorm near Lamesa, Texas. He had his camera rolling when a massive explosion occurred, sending an 18" long, 4" diameter pipe valve rocketing from 200 yards away, arcing directly into the front of his storm chase vehicle!! Miraculously, no one was injured in this explosion!!!
Severe weather is possible again today, stretching from the Texas Panhandle all the way to western Pennsylvania, although the tornado threat appears to be minimal. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concern at this time, however a potentially significant severe weather outbreak appears to be on the horizon for the weekend into next week. We'll be chasing everything we can for the rest of the season, so be sure to check in for updates!
