Returning from storm chasing on May 14, 2009, David Drummond came across a tank battery fire that was ignited by lightning associated with a thunderstorm near Lamesa, Texas. He had his camera rolling when a massive explosion occurred, sending an 18" long, 4" diameter pipe valve rocketing from 200 yards away, arcing directly into the front of his storm chase vehicle!! Miraculously, no one was injured in this explosion!!!

Severe weather is possible again today, stretching from the Texas Panhandle all the way to western Pennsylvania, although the tornado threat appears to be minimal. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concern at this time, however a potentially significant severe weather outbreak appears to be on the horizon for the weekend into next week. We'll be chasing everything we can for the rest of the season, so be sure to check in for updates!

I concur with xmesox, if you want to see some action this year just ride along with Drummond. Holy! that was intense and I had to replay the video to hear the valve hitting the car after realizing the damage it did. You can almost hear the hisss of it flying in and thank goodness you were not the one getting hit.

Yeah, last night this cell was around us no warning at all and it produced a funnel. 9pm I couldn't see, barely so I took a picture, you could barley see it, so I took it and added blue to see if you could see it and man! It was wide! Really Wide Funnel! -Brandon

I saw this on the news... absolutely INSANE! It's amazing how the shell of the tank just launches into the air. That's the craziest thing I've ever seen!
