Weekend severe weather event kicks off this afternoon! PDF Print E-mail

A developing trough over the western US and Gulf moisture advecting into the central Plains will support an enhanced severe weather threat this afternoon and into the evening, from northwest Wisconsin stretching into northeast Kansas. Dewpoints are already approaching 60 degrees as far north as southern Wisconsin and will continue to increase this afternoon. TVN is anticipating a large hail event in southeast Nebraska and Iowa, as the tornado potential appears marginal at this time.
There is also a chance for severe weather across east Texas, where large hail and maybe an isolated tornado are possible. 4.24.09.day1otlk_1630
This marks the first day in what could be a multi-day severe weather outbreak across the central and southern Plains. Numerous chasers will be streaming throughout the weekend, so be sure to check out the Live Tracker as the event unfolds!

1st two storms of the day appear to be firing up south of McAlester Oklahoma. Don't for get abour Randy Denzer's stream in Texas. If he's the only one that stayed south he may end up the lucky one today.

Be sure to click the hail icons to get more info, storm motion, etc. Andrew Butler is on an intensifying cell in northern IA right now - that's AndrewMN from here on the site 8)

It's not looking quite as great as I'd hoped today, but tomorrow looks great in OK/TX. CAPE explodes in western oklahoma then dies in the span of a few hours retreating back in TX. The temperatures look very nice, but dewpoints/shear look best in north-central TX.

I'm pretty excited about this! Severe weather in my state. Perfect way to end Wisconsin's Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Nope. Setup looks like crap. I am going to go back to Michigan and get some stuff done. No sense in wasting more gas on such a crappy setup.

HA just kidding

I'll be out later today :)

Its going to be absolute Insanity today and tomorrow for the TX panhandle to OK.. sw KS.. Anyone out there should get serious discrete cells that should very well "produce"... SWS has initiated a "high alert" for the current developing situation.. Be safe all.. Wish I could be on this one..

TVN will prevail and DOMINATE today and tomorrow !!!
