reed_gizmo_dominating_wingsGizmo and I are DOMINATING this evening, spending some quality time together as Chris and I get ready for our storm chasing adventure in Argentina, which is coming up in just over one week. Although we'd like to sneak Gizmo onto the plane with us and smuggle her into South America, she will be staying behind with our roommates Aaron (from the Scout team on Storm Chasers!) and Huy. We know she will be well taken care of!

While there is still not much of a weather story today, the long-range models have been hinting at a potentially major winter storm as well as a significant cold wave to blanket the majority of U.S. just after Christmas. This is still a long way out right now, but the models have been pretty consistent in picking up on the very cold air, while the placement and intensitiy of the precipitation has been shifting east and west. Check out the temperature map from the 12z run of the GFS, below! This is definitely something to keep an eye on, especially for people who may be traveling over the holidays. Stay tuned for updates!

+1 #4 mpetty 2009-12-16 21:06 Not many people find something they enjoy doing and make it into a profession. The ones that do are truly happy.

Have a successful trip, hope the storms are big down there.

Be safe and have a great trip!

+2 #7 reedtimmer 2009-12-17 06:53 It looks like a semi-persistent trough could be setting up west of Argentina in about 10 days. I've been waiting for this for 10 years. JR is coming as well, and we'll be able to stream 1 still image and our GPS position every minute while we're down there from what he tells me..

0 #8 rogeressig 2009-12-17 08:29 freakin' inspired man, I've been watching aussie weather radars for the past few months because of you guys and the other crews on StormChasers. I saw Cyclone Lawrence on radar, go from a small storm to a category 5 with 177mph wind gust. will be studying your Argentina adventure thoroughly. dominate!

0 #9 SkyEyeJo 2009-12-17 08:59 Spend lots of time w/that little doggie - imprint your very essence on her - no doubt Aaron will try to buy her love w/goodies. Luckily, Terriers know how to take advantage of bribery. Muahaha!! Merry Christmas to you, Reed (Chris and Aaron too)!!

0 #10 Unclejim 2009-12-17 10:59 You guys have a FUN and sucessful trip, Reed. Keep us updated and watch out for the Argentine cops. You're going into a 3rd world country, you know. Well, the country is 3rd world, the government isn't. Take lots of tow rope with you, and get a winch on the Dominator. Preferably front and back.
In your medical kit, put in some "CELOX". It stops bleeding almost instantly, and doesn't sting. I carry it with me wherever I go, because I'm a Coumadin patient.
Good mornin', JoJo… I wish you'd get a FaceBook. I miss you!
Love To All… Uncle Jim

0 #12 marcioriva 2009-12-17 17:47 Hi Reed, I'm from Brazil, and I can't wait to see what you think of things that happen here in South America. I just have one question. How will you chase the storms around here? We don't have advanced systems to track storms as in the USA.
Seja bem vindo e boa sorte.(Be welcome and good luck)

0 #13 blackbelt36 2009-12-18 13:53 Be careful down there Reed! Too bad your Argentina adventure will not be included on the show…right? An international chase episode would be cool. Gizmo is such a cutie. I'm a cat person now, but Gizmo is making me want to get a dog again. :)

0 #14 RicardoAssumpcao 2009-12-19 09:53 Only the extreme south of Brazil Wed bordering Argentina has a good coverage of Doppler radars. I live in southern Brazil, state of Rio Grande do Sul, make weather observations and accompany the images of the radar. Good luck Reed.
