superhaulerWeather enthusiasts aren't the only ones paying attention to this season of Storm Chasers! Wired magazine recently featured an op-ed piece by Reed, where he talks about storm chasing and some of the ways it relates to his research. Click here  to read more!

Also, the RC plane community is pretty fired up over last week's episode of Storm Chasers, where the RC Superhauler was shown dominating the skies in extreme conditions and successfully deploying probes into the Macksville, KS tornado. Check out this post from the Flying Giants website! The Superhauler will be in action again on the season finale this Sunday -- some incredible data was gathered during the Aurora, NE intercept, from both the parachute probes and the roof mounted radar on the Dominator!

+1 #1 JC Surfs 2009-11-25 14:41 Great post Heidi. The article in Wired magazine was well done. It is so good to gather data from these storms. The significant impact of this research will be so helpful. Keep up the goods TVN.

Best to all on these approaching holidays…

0 #2 ladystorm61 2009-11-25 14:46 Went to the Flying Giants website and there were quite a few fans of SC on there! It was really nice of them to mention the show and also show support all the way around!

0 #9 davedavis 2009-12-01 09:58 The next step in this research is to expand the altitude envelope. The RC plane delivery system maxes out at around 2,000 feet and hopes that the instrument packages get caught up in the storm system in-flow. Check out http://www.glendaproject.org for a sounding rocket delivery system. This would make a great companion system to the low altitude RC airplane.
