A few elevated supercells will be possible today across Texas, with the severe threat spreading eastward into Louisiana and Arkansas as the day progresses. Moderate instability exists across the risk area, with CAPE values generally ranging from 2,000-3,000 J/kg. A relatively weak cold front sweeping through the area will provide the contrast necessary to initiate thunderstorms; as such, a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for most of central Texas this afternoon.
