Hurricane Ike has been gradually gaining strength since re-emerging over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and currently has maximum sustained winds of 100 mph and a minimum central pressure of 957 mb. Nearly all of the models have Ike reaching major hurricane status in the next day or so, making landfall as a category 3 or 4 hurricane near or just north of Corpus Christi, TX. Given landfall of a major hurricane, this could be devastating for the Texas Gulf Coast between Corpus Christi and Houston. TVN will be leaving early tomorrow morning for the Texas Gulf Coast, and we'll stream continually throughout the chase until the data towers are disabled. We're also planning on chasing the outer bands for tornadoes later on Saturday and Sunday as Ike becomes entrained in the westerlies. I would not be surprised if 50-100 tornadoes are reported by early next week!
