tornado_wind.copyriteWhile inside the Goshen County, WY tornado on June 5, 2009, TornadoVideos.net recorded an astounding 155 MPH wind gust with the roof-mounted R.M. Young marine model wind monitor! TVN Instrumentation Specialist and TwisterData developer Dave Demko says, "[TVN] recorded a peak one-second average horizontal wind velocity of 155.2 MPH (approximately 3 meters above ground level) at 22:25:59 UTC (2009-06-05 22:25:50 UTC correcting for datalogger clock drift) after the crew stopped and lowered the vehicle!  Keep in mind, given the performance limitations of the wind monitor instrument in highly turbulent flow, that this observation almost certainly does not represent the highest wind velocity actually encountered by the SRV while the tornado's core flow region traversed the vehicle. The highest three-second rolling average wind speed (official WMO/NWS definition of a "wind gust") was 150.2 MPH -- WOW!!!  These speeds are squarely in the middle of the EF-3 range (136-165 MPH).

Strong tornadoes and extremely large hail are possible again today in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri as strong directional and speed shear combines with high instability over the region. Yesterday's storms were suppressed by a strong cap, but the models are indicating that the cap will break over the moderate risk area this afternoon, which could result in a dangerous weather situation! Numerous chasers will be in the area so be sure to follow along on the LIVE VIDEO tab at top left!

The whole situation was perfect for gathering data, and I think we're about to witness a tremendous amount of new knowledge regarding everything involving tornadoes.
Not just tornadogenesis, but all the little minute details that may have been missed before while so many things are happening and observers couldn't detect w/the naked eye or conventional radar.
An enormous amount of data was collected from all sides of this tornado and will take quite a while to colate, but boy, oh boy are there going to be some delerious storm-data-nerds involved in the process!!
