Explosive thunderstorm development is possible later this afternoon as the right entrance region of the jet stream will provide the upper level ascent needed for convective initiation over northwest Texas. An intensifying low-level jet just after 00z should cause the tornado threat to skyrocket with any discrete storms that form, and strong tornadoes in addition to extremely large hail will be possible. Later, a large MCS is likely to develop and affect the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area and points east, bringing the threat for widespread damaging winds and flooding. Stay tuned for updates, and be sure to follow us on the Live Video link above!

dfw, huh? hm..that's me! it ought to be an interesting evening. i can't say i'm 100% looking forward to it...i'm running out of pecan trees to lose to wind damage! i will say that right now, the air is so thick outside you could cut it with a knife. definitely an interesting evening ahead.

Storms will form by mid to late afternoon.Like reed said the jet stream dynamics will form the storms and breach the cap.As i have been saying low local heights 500 meters and large and curved low level hodographs will fule mesos and tornados/some strong.Rising dews into 70s will keep the heights low. This is a very dangerous situation and has warrented me to issue a higher end modt risk 15% hatched tornado risk and 45% very large hail.I don't think this will qualify my high risk unless the tornados will be very long tracked which i will moniter closely.

Wow, just look at those EHI values, that's pretty insane- looking like a good set up for strong tornadoes. I've had a feeling about today all week and I think the chasers may get treated to some great storms as the models would suggest. Best of luck to the chasers heading out today.

Ha Ha, all the storm chasers playing the waiting game west of DFW area. Wish I was out there with you guys but my job has me until 4:30, I will probably head to Dallas area when I get off and be streaming as well. Quick note, the roads will be crowded starting Sunday as project VORTEX 2 will be out in full force along with the chasers. Let's all be careful out there guys.

So much for the moderate risk

the dropping of the modt risk is only less storm coverage, but storms may be significant and extra juice due to being isolated.I have not changed my forcast and still think strong tornados and very large hail, storms will fire in the hour.

Does anyone else us the weather underground radar? I am having problems pulling it up

+2 #21 godkane 2009-05-05 11:44
No, I just you the iMap one, has storm attributes, tornado warning, and tornado probabilities. What else do you need?

Bust.

Hmm... or not.

Is anyone else not picking up any of the live streams? That storm has a nice hook echo and the map shows two chasers just south of the hook streaming but I am getting nothing but black screen.

I don't know what happened but when I joined this a few months ago the video was a lot better. Now when I pull it up it hardly pulls up now.

I can see a few streams ok now. J. R. Hehnly's is looking pretty promising right now, don't know that I'd call it a funnel, but there's a local lowering of the storm cloud occuring.
