Brian Emfinger just emailed this photo of the large tornado that was occurring in Ellis County, OK a while ago. Verne Carlson, Dick McGowan and Darin Brunin were 100 yards away from this tornado when it had just formed and was a narrow elephant trunk. Reed reports that TVN was VERY close to two large, strong tornadoes - video to come later!

Tornado watches currently extend from the upper Mississippi River Valley to the Rio Grande in Texas! This is a serious weather situation and those in the watch areas should monitor the conditions as the evening progresses.

Were You on US 283 north or south of the Canadian River when this was shot? Know the are well.

I chased "Tail end Charlie" yesterday from South of Snyder up to Carnegie. Got some cool tape of the funnel south of Snyder and I think your guys were behind me shooting it as well. Will post it as soon as I figure out how!

Damn. 100 yards away. Looking at that thing in the pic. I probably would've been cleaning out my shorts. Anyways, I didn't get the chance to get out today. I was really really really wanting to go but hey, it happens. That is an excellent photo. My 5 yr. son said it looks like a pipe. He loves tornadoes and he likes to go chasing with me. He knows what green clouds mean. Keep up the good work, and the great photos.

Talk about a "funnel" cloud! Why am I never looking at the streams at the right time?

Wow that is a cool pic. I wonder if Verne, Dick and Darin had to visit the local Wal-Mart for new underwear. Unfortunately I had to sit out today as my niece is spending the night tonight. I have mustered a vacation day for tomorrow so I will be up in Oklahoma in the moderate risk area north of the DFW area.

So far we are very lucky- i cant believe theres only been a dozen or so tornadoes- it will increase later but i thought there would be some major tornado damage and some monsters- great pics and once again everyone stay safe...

Yeah.. What a day.. As well JC got 2 on the ground north of Medicine Lodge KS Multiple vort funnels then the 2 on the ground. One was a pretty large wedge. I just previewed the video.. INSANE.. In a conversation with TVN video king... It is apparent the TVN viewers are going to be very happy with the score "team SRV" captured... I will put mine up as soon as I get some rest.. Its been a very long day... Cheers..

Hey its Alberto. Those storms were really powerful they formed along the dryline as a mid level disturbance triggered them.the only limiting factor today was hp cells. Also i am watching cells in texas, keep an eye on them as they are firing along outflows and strong low level directional shear.

Crazy.. I am in Greensburg right now.. AMAZING CELL!!! The lightning and hail.. A bit freaky!!! I guess its gonna be a long night too... I not driving anywhere soon in this.. SPC still has a high risk..

those storms in texas southwest remain descrete with at least 4 supercells.mid and upper level flow deep layer shear has increased to 50 to 60kts.strong low level shear and over 2,500 cape remains there.I think an enhenced risk for a few strong tornados exists there/otherwise hail to baseballs could be expected.I have downgraded my risk in kansas and oklahoma to sligh risk in my outlook.

My hat's off to Brian. That is one beautiful tornado! Hopefully we will see more photos as well as some video when Reed gets them uploaded to the site.... I'll definitely be waiting for it.

Not much else going on here in Iowa. Got a strong gust front pushing through to Clinton and Iowa City right now. NWS reports gusts up to 45 MPH can be expected, so I'd better find myself a place to sit it out for awhile. My best to all of you...

thats pretty much what i was thinking - continous thunderstorms and rain are stabilizing that pds area i think it should atleast be dropped to mod risk and its the renegade cells that will pose the real danger!

Everything here went from being cells to lines of thunderstorms. The best cell I seen was around noon for a tornado warned storm for ellsworth county ks. My county, but on the other side, didn't have time to get there. The best cells in kansas were either south or east of me. Its still way early in the "season".
