Tornadic thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and especially this evening across the eastern Texas panhandle, western Oklahoma and southwest Kansas. Extreme helicity values will exist after sunset, which will increase the potential for any tornadoes that do form to be strong.
A slight risk extends all the way to the Great Lakes!
This is a developing, potentialy dangerous weather situation for people in the Moderate Risk area! We'll likely have the highest number of streamers to date in the field, so be sure to follow the Live Tracker and check back for updates as we expect to update the blog again as storms fire.

...We're getting some storms up here, but there's not a high potential of severe. I think earlier today lightning struck by my house. About the most exciting thing that's going to happen here today...
CAPE is the amount of energy or instability in the atmosphere. Any CAPE readings over 1000 Joules is considered sufficient for severe storms provided the other ingredients are present.
We will probably have about 20 streams up on the map before the night is over.
