4.24.10.yazoocity_r 4.24.10.yazoocity_srvA very destructive tornado has struckĀ  Yazoo City, MS. TVN was chasing this storm andĀ is on the scene right now assisting in any way possible in what they are describing as a very bad situation. I am getting infrequent reports from the guys, but the tornado appears to have been at least a half-mile wide and has caused what they have estimated as "at least EF-3 damage." We'll update as more information becomes available.

I live in Winona, MS and debris fell in my yard which is aprox. 50 miles away from Yazoo City. Incredible!! The actual storm passed just 25 miles south of my house! I really got lucky today. My prayers go out to the victims of this storm.

I hope the survivors get all the help they need. The tornado is being reported as having a 200 mile track, how often does a tornado track that far? I read a while ago that the 'tri-state' tornado holds the record at about 230 miles. Although this is an awful tragedy, perhaps it could have been far worse given the scale.

pjones - After the Feb. 5th, 2008 tornado that tore across Arkansas, I found debris from Clinton and Atkins, AR, which are about 50-80 miles from here. It's a surreal feeling, isn't it?

Live TV coverage online (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ABC-33-40-Main) is reporting significant damage in NE AL, situation still unfolding with multiple tornadoes reported.

I really wish I could verbalize what I am feeling....I really wish I could help in some way....I guess at this point I want everyone affected to know that thoughts and prayers are with them...(seems really lame to say that but it the truth)

Reed I sometimes believe you are a little extreme but as a former medic with AMR I would just like to say thank you for stopping and helping my friends and co-workers today. You could have continued on chasing the storm but instead you stopped to help and I'll gladly give ya a thumbs up for that.

Speechless. Great job to all who were on scene lending a hand and documenting. We need you in times like these more than you know. And to Mark, you seriously need to take a look at yourself next time you post a thoughtless comment like that and think about how you would feel if you were in a Wendy's or Burger King when a tornado like that hits you dead on and you are buried in hundreds if not thousands of pounds of rubble and debris. I'm sure you wouldn't be joking about it then.
