Tornadoes and mesocyclones are not that unusual in the south central part of Los Angeles County. In fact, there is a rather high incidence of tornadic activity here, usually associated with strong landfalling winter storms like those which are happening this week. I would not be surprised if we had more tornadic activity in this area over the next 2 days.

That's the truth! Some Californians think we can't get severe weather like this and the only possible day we could be hit by one is 2012 , however we do have our fair share of weather out here...I believe 2009 was the first year in six or seven years that we didn't have a tornado touch down.

Looks like 2010 is starting out with a bang! I hope this active pattern is here during the hight of tornado season. But only time will tell.

I don't think this year will be anything like last year. This storm system is supporting my hypothesis.

Wow. This is madness (no "SPARTA!!" involved) and just seems so bizarre. Hopefully there's a rogue CA chaser out there who's all over this.

I didn't think The Day After Tomorrow would come so soon..

What software is used to get these images?

WIstormchaser, Heidi is likely using GRLevel3, possibly GRLevel2 Analyst even!

Check out the forums for more updates on the continued warnings in the Nowcasting thread!

What a rush
We had 2+" of rain within minutes.
When the loaded trash cans started flying I ran outside and there was circulation right overhead heading towards downtown Huntington Beach.
The temp dropped 8 degrees instantly

Cali has had Tornado's in the past but extremely rare. That was nuts. I predict an early spring for much of the US in turn a very active spring. I live in Indianapolis and we got our cold spell in December and early Jan. The 10 day forecast is placing temps. in the 40's and 50's. We norm hit sub zero temps around this time into Feb. Strange.... Have a SAFE season guys.

Long haul truck driver, in route to this area will be there about 2000hrs, depending on the weather traveling down. I am a spotter for Trucker Weather Watch and Okanogan County in Washington state. Really looking forward to this beautiful storm/storms.

The Weather Channel mentioned that California sees an average of 10 tornadoes per year. I assume since some parts of the state are very rural, they might not always been seen, or documented. I was also thinking of the #5 post, does sound a bit like The Day After Tomorrow. :P Thankfully everybody is ok there.
