UPDATE! MODERATE RISK ISSUED FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL MINNESOTA!!!

Several Massive supercell thunderstorms have fired in southeast South Dakota and are spreading east into western Minnesota. The environment is characterized by a warm front that is gradually lifting north; as it does, low level moisture is being pumped in and the atmosphere is becoming highly unstable where strong shear is already in place.

Any of these storms will be capable of destructive hail and tornadoes, and as such, a tornado watch has also been issued until 7PM local time!

Those cells are fizzling out from what they were an hour ago.

Very strong cap with H7 temps around 15C are sure not helping the storms sustain themselves...

More then likely, cap won`t break till after dark. Hope we get some rain this time. Did not get a drop out of last nights heavy rains around us.

Front just came through here, went to pick up my wife from work at 7pm and it was 90 with a dewpoint of 78. While waiting for her to come out I watched a long dark cloud move over and the temps drop 10 degrees and the wind shifted to the NW. What a relief from the heat and humidity we had today.

The environment in MN has been prime all evening for tornadic supercells, but it definitely looks like the cap might hold for daytime storms..

it is wery easy to see that there are three supercells but i do believe what else i am seeing is maybe a gust front at the front of the storm. but im not to sure. the supercells do indeed look very promising for tornado development.
