nam_221_2009080612_f36_wspd_500_mbA large 500mb trough is currently developing over the western Rockies, and will play a significant factor in what could become a severe weather outbreak across the northern Plains and upper MS valley this weekend. Plenty of moisture and instability will be in place over the upper MS valley region into the Dakotas, where dewpoints are expected to approach 80 degrees tomorrow!
The 12z NAM shows a surface low developing over eastern South Dakota, which will increase low-level flow and shear over parts of Iowa and Minnesota. This will elevate the tornado potential significantly as storms remain somewhat discrete after initiation, before eventually congealing into a larger mesoscale system. Several of our live video streamers will be covering this event (even though Iowa has seen a lot of "busts" this year!) so be sure to follow along with them tomorrow into the rest of the weekend!

Can someone tell me how bad this is going to be for west central Wisconsin? I have to go to a wedding Saturday and my sons birthday party is Sunday.I was looking at the stuff posted but I just do not understand it. It looks to me like I would be right in the dark red part here in WI. So is that good or bad?

I think centrel SD very strong CAPE best LLJ. Iowa also has strong CAPE but only around 60 kts LLJ. centrel South Dakota has 80 kts. This could be an intresting day!

I hate Iowa, but maybe tomorrow will change my opinion! I'll be out as I can't ignore the great shear. It doesn't look like we'll cap bust,at least I hope not!

Well it'll be interesting to see what happens in Iowa with the LLJ out of the SW, the CAPE around 2-3000 and strong vertical shear. Maybe this will ammount to soemthing!
