LIVE TRACKER DEMO CONTINUING TOMORROW!!

Brian Emfinger live from Northwest Arkansas tracking the winter storm...

http://tornadovideos.net/full-screen-chaser-video.php

11march2009_winterstormA substantial precipitation shield is currently surging northeastward toward the sub-freezing air temperatures entrenched in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas, setting the stage for a quick but hard-hitting snow storm across the entire northern third of the state.  Brian Emfinger will be streaming live video of this event from Northwest Arkansas, so be sure to check out the live tracker page later tonight and tomorrow (Thursday).  3-6 inches will be the general rule for snowfall accumulations for this area, with higher amounts if precipitation can develop a convective nature.  This system will continue east toward the Ohio River Valley over the next few days.

I have a question regarding the live tracker-are you going to have an area showing what/who some of the people/places are on the map? Like the WD camera-I don't know who that is/where that is-besides it being an office somewhere. Know what I mean? I can't think of the word for it.

I'm really not liking the new format for the "live tracker". I like the fact that you can pick from a larger number of live videos, but that "pop up" covers most of the map. (ear muff it) WTF? I think it would be better if it opened in a new window instead of covering the map. I'm Peter Griffin and that's what grinds my gears.

I'm absolutely loving the live radar & video. Being on the other side of the world here, this kind of technology just blows my mind, I can't believe I can be sitting in my office in New Zealand, while watching actual video from the chase! Awesome! It really makes me feel like I'm there. Love it keep up the great work!

I was already out earlier streaming (from 530-730am) checking roads and getting video (my day job is tv photographer). So far its not looking to be a significant a winter storm as the wx models were showing yesterday. I did see icing (freezing rain) above 1000 feet. Temperatures have already fallen a few degrees. I will probably have to head out again in a few and streaming will recommence at that time. There probably won't be too much in the way of play since once again we are stuck with freezing rain... yuck. If all of our freezing rain had fallen as snow this year we would have had like probably 30-50 inches of snow as opposed about the 2 we have had.

Snow is coming down at a moderate rate here in north-central AR. Until about an hour ago it was a snow/sleet mix. Zero accumulation so far.

not only does the pop up video cover a good part of the map it has a drop shadow that covers even more of the map.

Well the winter storm didn't come together (at least in W/NW AR). Temperatures have been hovering at or just above freezing. Most of the precip has been in the form of freezing rain with totals typically less than .15. I did come upon a snow burst near Mountainburg, AR but it didn't last and there was no accumulation.

Glad you made it back all safe and sound, Brian. That freezing rain is the worst to drive in. Everything ices up - the road, the wipers, the windshield...ack! :o

Yeah, I agree, me and the Chief Meteorologist at NBC 24 have been talking how it could just simply be a rain shaft, and with the National Weather Service in Cleveland. Who knows Great thing that Nobody was hurt.

Reed, Here's the conclusion that was made...(It was in an email)I Agree with him

Upon further review…that was NOT a tornado in that picture.

I’ve looked at several pictures of that “feature” now…and it’s an optical illusion.
