The entire region from Central Georgia through the Appalachian Mountain Region is absolutely getting HAMMERED by a late season snow storm this afternoon, after dropping historic snow from Memphis to near Atlanta. 6+ inches of total snow accumulation is expected from central Georgia, through the Piedmont Region of the Carolinas, with amounts exceeding a foot over parts of the Northeast as the system strengthens and surges north. The rain vs. snow precipitation can be seen clearly in the iMap below from around 4:00 pm EST:
The NAM is forecasting over 1.50 inches of water equivalent precip over the next 24 hours over almost the entire East Coast, with a vast majority of this precip swath falling in the form of very wet snow. OUT OF CONTROL! This has been a relatively quiet year for Nor'Easters, but no longer.. Of course, winter storm warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service for this entire area, and trees and powerlines will likely come down everywhere. Stay tuned for updates as this winter weather situation unfolds.
