Strong upper level dynamics are combining with cold air advection from Canada to create a wintery mess in western Montana. Winter storms warnings have been posted for nearly the entire western half of the state, and winter weather advisories are up for lower elevations of the southwestern corner of Montana. Winter weather advisories are also up for the Yellowstone Park area in Wyoming, eastern Idaho, and the Salt Lake City region. This is the same weather system that has caused much snowfall in the Sierra Nevada the last few days. Many times the area most favorable for snowfall is just to the northwest of the 700mb low, and this case is no exception to the rule. We can expect to see numerous totals above half a foot, with higher elevations expecting over two feet! This includes the Glacier National Park area!
