13july2009_supercellAn incredible supercell has been raging east of the Black Hills for the past hour or so as it emerged as the dominant storm from an MCS that developed to the northwest earlier today.  This storm has had tornado warnings for awhile now, but no reported tornadoes as far as I know.  Rapid City radar is indicating over 100 knots gate-to-gate shear as of 4:20 pm CDT, and looks to be cycling on radar on the most recent scan.  I believe Thunder Ent. is on this storm but I haven't talked to them yet today.  Stay tuned for updates!

-1 #5 djmweatherman 2009-07-13 17:15 Reed, I think you and the SRV Dominator should be up that way, instead of sitting in a chair behind a computer screen…like I am.

0 #6 MDH 2009-07-13 17:53 I have to whine, my trip to southern Ontario has so far been a bust and most of the action is staying south.

This is a beautiful looking cell on radar. That little yellow spot should indicate a tornado though so it seems odd nobody spotted one.

I've also heard the action is starting to heat up in south central Canada, let's hope it comes this way.

-2 #7 fonzbear2000 2009-07-13 18:20 PLEASE let this storm make it to St. Paul!!!!!

0 #8 Matthew Chatelain 2009-07-13 20:08 I can confirm that Thunder Entertain is in south dakota… but I'm not with them because of planned vacation with my girlfriend. I can't get myself to call them, so i'm not sure if they were on the long tracked supercell mentioned above or the storm that produced a reported large tornado near the WY/SD border… AHHHHHHHHH!!!!

+3 #9 AirRaider57 2009-07-13 20:41 If you guys think about it and have a great memory, this looks EXACTLY like the greensburg, kansas EF5 supercell and hook echo

+2 #10 AirRaider57 2009-07-13 20:42 Quoting fonzbear2000:
PLEASE let this storm make it to St. Paul!!!!!

sorry, going South East

0 #11 James1 2009-07-13 21:33 Looks like Kadoka is right there if this supercell continues to have that prominent hook. I'd guess that a tornado is on the ground. But i have no proof

0 #12 MDH 2009-07-13 21:34 Cell in north NE is really looking nice right now - mesocyclone on radar has a red loop with a center where the hook is…

If anyone can provide stream it would be much appreciated.

0 #13 James1 2009-07-13 21:41 I saw the little hook growing too. It's looking like another bruiser.

0 #14 James1 2009-07-13 21:44 Yeah there are two TVS's. one in the cell North of North Platte and one near Valentine from earlier.

0 #15 weatherluvr 2009-07-13 21:56 Ive been working a ton…jonesin for a good storm here in Omaha…anyone think tomarrow may bring a chance??

0 #16 txvegas8ball 2009-07-14 01:47 Just FYI…I was watching this storm. It never produced a tornado, much to my surprise. It had very intense rotation, i mean it was moving, a beautiful wall cloud, great inflow, and spun up a couple of funnels. There was also large egg-sized to softball sized hail. It was a beautiful storm!!!

0 #17 Mallardone 2009-07-14 02:57 Thanks for the Update!

0 #18 cLere 2009-07-14 05:31 I live in Rapid City and was so ready to go find me a tornado. Gotta love when work gets in the way instead though!

0 #19 AirRaider57 2009-07-15 18:03 I just intercepted a LARGE tornado southwest of Nashville Moving South East at 20 MPH
