colorado1 colorado2A textbook supercell is roaring southeast away from Pueblo in Southeast Colorado, with a funnel cloud reported shortly before 6:00 pm MDT.  This storm is likely producing monster hail and will have the potential of tornadoes as the evening progresses. Verne Carlson and Tim Samaras with Twistex are chasing this storm, so be sure to check out the live stream!  Here is a screen capture showing Verne's view of amazing mesocyclone structure and a very low wall cloud.

I had such a blast watching the Verne Carlson's live stream last evening. He's got a lot of guts - no shrinking back for him. He positions where he needs to and gets the job done.
I found myself talking to myself about what I was seeing (one disadvantage of the lack of sound on the streams), and I jumped from radar, to stream, to posting warnings, and back around. Later, I watched Verne back into the cottonwoods and film what surely appeared to be a rain wrapped tornado (no matter what the WC was saying) and saw the hail bouncing on the road in front of him.
Very, very exciting.

I just talked to Verne; a tornado that he describes as several hundred-yards wide just crossed the road right in front of him, as his car got drilled by horizontal baseball-sized hail. :o

We were on the Strasburg cell early and the Pueblo cell just north of Rocky Ford in the late afternoon... Hope Verne is Okay... we aborted due to the massive hail... We got to the west just in time... I am surprised that this one produced... It looked like it formed into a large MCS.. Looking forward to seeing what Verne got..

All we got was a couple of marginal funnels on the east side of Aurora CO about 1:40 pm... other than that... a bunch of hail and C to G's... Nah! This day was crap for us.. Cheers..
