05april2009_watchA tornado watch has been issued for parts of the Missippi and Ohio River Valleys, from southern Indiana into northwest Tennessee, as a potent shortwave trough moves across the area.  This is a perfect environment for low-topped tornadic supercells, with 150-250 0-1 km helicity values indicated by the 17z RUC analysis, with a robust axis of 500-1000 J/kg CAPE uncapped.  These storms will be flying at 50+ mph through forested terrain, so chasing this event would be extremely difficult.  There may be live streamers in the field today, so be sure to check the live tracker as the afternoon moves on.  We're currently prepping our vehicle for the upcoming chases next weekend!  Stay tuned for updates.

Wow the watch ends right at my county line (Hamilton County, OH). Apparently one tornado has already dropped.

Yeah and it's a good thing no one is trying to chase this. Once these storms keep moving East it's gonna get real hilly.

They'll have weakened a bit. That tornado warned cell though is shaving my county line soon. Heavy rain right now.

Supposedly we're going to get the worst of these storms around 11-11:15 tonight. I really hate nighttime storms.

It was pretty much a bust for us. My brother and I drove north on I-75 toward Dayton and my dad recommended that we try near Wright Patt AFB. When we got there he told me over the phone that we should head to Springfield(which we did). After we got there he told us that(at least on radar) the storm wasn't really moving anymore  Sooo we headed west on I-70 and ended up intercepting the storm near dark. It was dying down and the warning expired a minute or two after we got there. There was a really low line of clouds hanging 500ft off the ground that we went through, but all of the funnel reports were like 30min before or so. Except for 1 CG and 8 flashes of lightning, we just got rain. If we had traveled on the other side of Dayton I think we would have had a shot at seeing the funnel clouds.

Now that I'm looking back at what happened it appears that I would have intercepted the storm, when it was rotating, if I had been able to travel west just 15-25min earlier. By the time it hit Englewood(the town we were in that was in its path) it had lost steam. Oh the aggravations of chasing...

Looks like the southeast got most of the action.. Also the 4-9 to 4-10 severe weather may produce some chase possibilities. The models are looking pretty good.

Team TVN.. How did the dominator fare in the drive home?
