27march2009_outlookThe Storm Prediction Center has issued a moderate risk for parts of the southern U.S., along and south of a warm front extending east from an intense storm system dumping feet of snow on the High Plains!  (Dave Holder and TSR will be streaming the blizzard live).  Sufficient instability and wind shear will exist in the warm sector for supercells, especially in the vicinity of the warm front forecast to reside near the AR/LA Border by late afternoon/evening.  As is typical with these vertically stacked closed lows, the low-level wind shear profile is a little weird, with the main LLJ axis shifting east of the real warm sector.  Still though, the models are forecasting a re-intensification of the low-level jet just east of a strengthening surface low later this afternoon through the overnight, which will result in sufficient wind shear for tornadoes - some 27march2009_watchwarningsstrong.  Based on what I'm seeing in this morning's model runs, the best chance for tornadic supercells will be near and after sunset, when the LLJ has a chance to get going.  There is not a lot of convection out there as of early afternoon, so this will probably not be a messy squall line scenario unless the fast frontal boundary speed overwhelms the storm motions!  The Austin's of warmsector.com are currently streaming from the center of the moderate risk area, and Dave Holder of TVN is streaming the blizzard from his hotel in Liberal, KS.  Dave is a warrior..he went up to the heart of the blizzard solo in a Nissan Altima!  Highly not recommended!  Blizzard warnings are currently in effect from the Texas Panhandle to Central Kansas, and Dave has reported over 6 inches of snow already with extensive drifting.  He'll likely be trapped up there for days!

Reed,

Hope Dave brought some DVDs and those archaic things called 'books' in case of down-time w/out power.

Glad he's all safely tucked in.

Hey Reed we are about to get those storms that produced the tornados in northwest FL. our town Lake city must have had probaly the most tornados in all of florida! we have had one every year but this year it all started in 2007 on Christmas and they have been getting worse each time. anyways it would be cool to see one though that is doing no harm!!!!!!

it is starting to feel NASTY in central oklahoma...no snow or ice yet but i can just sense that something is about to happen...concerning severe weather...i really think there will be a great chance for large tornadoes esp towards sunset like reed said...CAPE is extreme at 4000 j/kg(which is going to be expanding northward)and there is amazing lift at -8 and -9 in some areas...once the winds get their act together it could get real ugly...almost wished i wouldve chased the warm sector event...

Hey, I'm new here. Is there going to be a live stream? My email said there would be but when I click on the video, it says that Dave Holder is stationary and it has been that way for hours. Is he stuck?
Wild weather, huh?

lisa,
Dave Holder is holding (no pun intended) up in a motel for the duration of the snow storm.
Way too dangerous to drive in.

Is anyone else in SE TX right now? I'm watching the storm east of Cleveland, TX and it is beginning to develop a VERY strong hook.

Hey all! It would appear that Reed is now streaming, although he is not any storms YET, but Dennis Sherrod is joining in with WarmSector in Louisiana, and they would both appear to have some really good potential.
