texas_supercells_march26Supercells have exploded near San Antonio, TX this morning producing hail up to 1.75" in diameter, and damaging straightline winds as of 11:00 am CDT.  These storms are located in an extreme unstable environment, with near 3000 J/kg CAPE in place along and south of the front.  Deep layer shear is extremely supportive of rotating storms, and low-level shear is sufficient for a few tornadoes with boundary interactions, if the storms can remain discrete.  David Drummond and Randy Denzer are currently in route to intercept these storms, and are also streaming live video at this time.  They are targeting a textbook supercell on the Frio/Medina County line southwest of San Antonio, which is showing week rotating and a nice appendage on the southwest side of the storm.  We are also considering chasing the blizzard this weekend in Southwest Kansas and extreme Northwest Oklahoma, where up to two feet of snow and 50+ mph winds are anticipated!  We'll have both the warm and cold side of the system covered.  Stay tuned for updates.

As far as today, your right, and the cells do look intresting down in SW TX,and some heavy looking cells with severe hail, 2.0" size reported… biggest storms seem to be moving towards San Antonio, right now,i see Randy and David are heading for them now…might be worth keeping a track of that, but thanks for the info…Keep up the Excellent work guys. And thanks…

I live in SW KS. The blizzards out here can be quite fierce cause there is nothing to stop the wind. I live in a little town called Satanta. We are right in the bullseye of the 10 to 15 inch accumulation range. 3 years ago, we went thru a crippling ice storm. We aren't anticipating any ice but the snow will be here and there are some here that think that it won't snow at all. Do they have anything coming.

Hello everyone. I live just southwest of San Antonio, and let me say we had some beautiful clouds and then a downpour. Only pea size hail but golfball size at the local High School.

Incredible lightning showing on David & Randy's stream right now. Randy's showed a very nice look at the base a minute ago. That storm is tornado warned right now.
