The largest winter storm event of 2012-2013 is underway, and locations from New York City to Maine are bracing for conditions that could ultimately result in record snow totals for some areas. Tropical storm-force winds--with gusts anticipated to be in excess of 50 MPH--in combination with heavy, 2-3 inch per-hour snowfall rates will result in blizzard conditions, and needless to say, will bring a significant threat for power outages and make driving extremely treacherous; in Massachusetts, the governor has declared a state of emergency, and has issued a ban on all non-essential travel beginning this afternoon.
