Re:March 2, 2012 Storm Chase webisode (beta version)
Mar 03 2012 14:49:17 Before everyone goes off about their running out of gas, take another glance at the concern on the driver's face.
If any of you were watching this unfold, you know that this was an incredibly explosive situation. All the careful planning goes right out the window when you're suddenly thrust into the chaos. Having been in a rapidly unfolding grind myself, I personally will reserve the ridicule and be grateful that they're all fine and able to chase again. Sometimes, things just get away from you. |

Re:March 2, 2012 Storm Chase webisode (beta version)
Mar 05 2012 04:01:48 If you think about it, running out of gas would probably be an easy thing to do. Friday the storms were so explosive and fast moving you are constantly driving focusing on what is going on around you and trying to stay out of the "bear cage". Anyone who makes a silly or negative comment on that doesn't have a clue. That is one of the last things on their mind. There is so much going on inside the Dominator as well as outside. Also if you have ever been to Eastern Kentucky you can go fairly long distances without seeing a gas station. There just isn't much out that way.
I live just north of Cincinnati and we didn't get any severe weather here but boy were the skies wicked. Reminded me very much of April 3, 1974. The clouds were moving extremely fast and you could see all the different layers of shear. The lowest clouds were moving one direction rapidly then just up from there the clouds were moving 90 degrees from the lowest clouds very rapidly. We don't see things around here like that very often. |

Where were you all chasing in eastern Kentucky?
Look forward to see more videos in the future. Best of luck and stay stay safe!
"Just realized we ran out of gas 5 minutes short of intercepting the Liberty, KS tornado. I really hope that my logistical error didn't prevent us from getting into position to see that tornado touching down... because who knows how the tornado report could have helped. Had no idea the cell we were about to catch was the one that produced the devastating Liberty tornado. "
So, you see, the Captain of the ship (so to type) takes full responsibility after all.
Not too impressed with Discovery's decision to cancel Storm Chasers though. A bit irresponsible really. Maybe local folks do know about tornados, how and where to take cover, etc. But on any given day there will be plenty of people criss crossing the mid west whose instinct will be to stop and watch. Storm Chasers sounded a word of warning. And why cancel a show with a global following anyway? So the people in L.A. and N.Y. didn't watch it? Is that all that counts these days, whether the main cities on the East and West Coasts watch a show? Thanks anyway, for all the effort the three of you put into the show over the years. I can't say I enjoyed it all - some of it was pretty devastating - but it was a great effort. Stay safe!
Please keep these coming!
