rose_hill_tornadoCheck out this amazing photo by Tom Hannan on April 27th, 2011 near Rose Hill, MS.  He estimates he was about 500-600 feet away and could hear the roar--a little too close for comfort!  This tornado was rated an EF-4, had a damage path of 65 miles and sadly took the lives of 7 people.  TVN stayed the night in Meridian, MS that night and heard of the fatalities, from this tornado, while chatting with local law enforcement.  A lot of these areas, affected by the April 27th deadly tornado outbreak, had very little media attention as some did this year, and are still picking up the pieces and dealing with the aftermath.  Hopefully, everyone is in the process of healing now and can get their lives back to as normal as possible, as soon as possible.

Storm Chasers, continues tomorrow (Sunday) at 10/9 E/C on The Discovery Channel, with a memorable chase near St. Louis, MO, where an EF-4 tornado affected the international airport after dark!  What did everyone think about the first episode(s)? See everyone tomorrow night.

Stay tuned, as this quiet week of weather ends, a much more active weather pattern week is in store...

I thought the first episode was both exciting and very, very sad. The entire nation watches as hundreds of people died. I will never forget Mike Bettes from the Weather Channel breaking down on air in Tuscaloosa. When humanity shows through there is hope for us all.

The more severe the weather gets the more I worry about you guys and what you do. Reed you were very lucky last year when your window blew out and I am afraid that some day you might get into something that intensifies after you have committed yourselves. Weather as you know being from Michigan changes oh too fast from mildly severe to watch out dangerous. You guys please be careful in your endeavors and above all in the name of science keep it going but safety first.

I'll be honest, though I liked the first episode I think it should have been a 2 hour premier. As someone who was directly effected and survived the EF-4 Cullman to Union Grove, AL tornado I think the show should've also had a tribute to all those effected that day, not just the tornadoes chased by Storm Chaser teams in MS and Tuscaloosa. Another fact is that the Tuscaloosa tornado wasn't the worst that day, that distinction would've gone to the Hackleburg to Harvest EF-5 that was on the ground for 120 miles killing at least 78 people.

Loving the chase....but the soap opera drama?...not so much. Think you guys could dial that back just a little? The Lambert Airport tornado sequence was pretty awesome. I don't live too far from there - it's still a mess around there yet. Don't know when or if they'll ever open up C-Concourse at the airport. Too bad you all came up short on that chase.

A reminder here: TVN has no control over how Discovery chooses to edit it's scenes, unfortunately. Nor do they have the option to choose what sound effects are used. (gah!) :o
