11.29.10.yazoo.cityBreaking news reports suggest that Yazoo City, MS, has just been hit by another significant tornado.  According to the Storm Prediction Center, structural and tree damage has occurred, though the extent and severity are as-yet unknown.  Other news reports indicate that the tornado may have tracked directly through the center of town, and that power is out through most of the city.  The picture to the left shows a strong radar couplet moving over the Yazoo City area earlier this evening.

Storm Chasers fans will remember that Yazoo City was devastated by a strong EF-4 tornado in April of this year, as featured in Episode 2.  Hopefully the damage was not as severe with this storm.

We will keep you updated on this developing situation...

**UPDATE**  Initial pics of damage from Yazoo City are in from WLBT, Jackson MS.  Initial reports from the sheriff's office indicate no immediate injuries.

As unfortunate as this is, at least it didn't track through residential areas like last spring.
It appears the majority of damage was in the downtown area. At that time of the evening, I assume most of the businesses, Govt. buildings were already buttoned up for the night. Thankfully.
This will have a lasting affect on these poor folks; I don't imagine they'll be feeling too secure during Severe TStorms for a long, long time to come.

This is another sad day for Yazoo City. They were hit 2 years ago by an F4 I believe and almost got hit again last year by a F3. It's oinly going to prolonge the reconstruction.

Actually, chaser, it was just 7 months ago the EF-4 hit (April 24.) See the original post by Don Giuliano above.

This is a good example of "mini tornado alleys", where tornadoes are prone to hitting nearly the same areas over and over. Indicating that the right set of conditions are present in the geography of these areas. More studies need to be done on this, as there are many of these hot spots through tornado alley.
