Here are some more pictures from January 5 of our Argentina trip, which was our best storm chasing day by far. We're currently at the airport in Charlotte, NC with one more flight until we're back home, and the immediate change of seasons sure was a shock, especially since the coldest airmass of the season is throttling the U.S. I have one more round of photos to go through after these from Bobos camera, which are more in the way of people/action shots, and in a few weeks we'll be releasing the footage as a series of brief webisodes on Youtube, TVN, and Facebook. Next year we're heading down there during the prime spring season of October 15 - December 1, since the baroclinicity and low-level shear is much stronger. While we visited the Argentinian National Weather Service in Buenos Aires, we were shown damage survey pictures of several strong tornadoes from earlier this spring in Argentina, including a 1 km-wide F4 with a 16 km long damage path from late October 2009. The road network in the Pampas is very doable especially east of a line from Cordoba to Santa Rosa, and the visibility is unparalleled without the presence of dust from the Mexican Plateau and pollutants. Enjoy the photos!
