As many of you know, TVN will be deploying to Argentina tomorrow set to arrive in Buenos Aries at 7 am on December 27th, after which our Southern Hemisphere storm chasing adventure will likely start off with a bang as a powerful shortwave trough will slam into southern South America. The GFS forecast for the morning of the 27th shows the strong trough just off the coast of Chile. It's crazy to see something that looks like a strong ridge, but is actually a trough, and will likely take a little bit to get used to. Since the jet is located a little further south now that we are toward the latter half of their season, we'll likely have to head southwest out of Buenos Aries toward our preliminary target of Santa Rosa, and wait for storms to roll off the foothills of the Andes. Joel and Aaron were down there for the last two weeks, and they tell me Argentina is like one massive Cherry County, NE, with a relatively sparse road network. However, they also mentioned the haze is non-existent with perfectly flat terrain, so it would be possible to see a tornado from over 30 miles away. Chris Chittick, Scott Currens, JR Hehnly, and I will be the chasers on this trip, along with Chris Whiteneck, Robert Seaman, and Dustin Feldman ("Bobo") from our Storm Chasers production crew. JR is bringing along a satellite unit, so we'll be streaming still images to the iMap on TornadoVideos.net/Live along with our GPS position througout the experience. These images will be streamed every minute, so if there is a tornado we'll capture it live! I'll also be posting the videos and blog updates every night when we arrive at a hotel with internet, so be sure to check back to TVN between the27th and when we return on January 10 for frequent Argentina updates. It's finally happening! I've been waiting for this for 10 years...
