A record-breaking winter storm is currently underway this morning across parts of the Southern Plains, with tornado warnings and occasional very strong radar couplets with storms in the warm sector over the Central Gulf Coast. Rain has already changed over to very heavy snow in western Oklahoma and North Texas as strong upper-level ascent spreads from west to east across the region, and the mixed precipitation over central and southern Oklahoma will also soon change over to heavy snow. Winter storm warnings are in effect from northern Texas into most of Oklahoma, with the heaviest snow accumulations of 8-12 inches expected from Wichita Falls to Pauls Valley, OK, and 4-8 inches for surrounding areas. Given the wind gusts over 40 mph anticipated this afternoon across the same region, the winter storm warnings will likely be upgraded to BLIZZARD WARNINGS this afternoon across central and southern Oklahoma! I can't believe I'm sitting here in Michigan with light freezing drizzle while my house in Norman is finally getting hammered by a winter storm! Stay tuned for updates as this very dynamic winter storm unfolds. We'll have all kinds of pictures and video, and be sure to check out the Live page for live streaming video!
