 Here is the design for the shell modifications we have planned for the Dominator this off season, as produced by Terry Rosema, co-designer of the original vehicle as well. Afterintercepting several tornadoes this past season, we learned of several improvements we could make to increase our safety inside tornadoes. As you can see from the blue print, the back of the improved vehicle will be much more aerodynamic and composed almost entirely of Lexan to increase visibility. The modified Dominator will look more like a sports car/sedan than a truck, and should help keep us on the ground when inside the stronger tornadoes. The co-designer and builder of the vehicle, Kevin Barton, will also be designing an automated Lexan window lift system so we don't have to worry about window blow-outs anymore! We also have several exciting research projects in the works for next year, so stay tuned for updates throughout the off-season! Not to mention the many blizzards we'll be chasing this winter..

Dominator 2010 Edition!
Sep 10 2009 19:10:01 Looks pretty cool - will the Lexan be scratch resistant? It's like someone once said...it's NOT that the wind is blowing....it's WHAT the wind is blowing.

Not too many years down the road, there will be some sort of newer version of DOW (not necessarily Doppler) where teams can keep everything encased in a similar design. Everything about this is simply exciting. |
